Karo Batak Earrings
Delicate and ornate, with a sparkling gemstone at the centre, these mini earrings are a great every day companion. Around 12 millimetres by 9 millimetres at their largest extension, they have been surrounded by granulation and completed with intertwined silver threads.
Jewellery is deeply meaningful to all Batak people. The most valuable pieces are worn only at major clan celebrations. While not in use, they are hidden in the main house or buried in a secret spot. The Karo smiths are among the most skillful gold- and silversmiths of the Batak tribes. Even today, they preserve the traditional ways of jewellery making inherited from their ancestors.
