Languages, clothing and jewellery vary greatly among the Mountain Tribes from south-east China and the region of the Golden Triangle (parts of Thailand, Burma and Laos). One of the most significant ethnics -regarding the variety of jewellery and its meaning to culture- are the Miao. Their heritage consists of up to 50 different kinds of adornments. A complete set of jewellery worn on special occasions may weigh between 6 and 9 kg.Multi-ring necklaces are one the most emblematic creations of the Miao. The pieces are often hollow and decorated with traditional Chinese motifs: dragons, phoenixes, animals and plants. These rings for the neck are used in sets and may weigh together from 500 to 2800 grams.
