Toba Batak Silver Ring
Bold and intimidating, the awe-inspiring face on this ring represents a mystical creature called Singa. It is found throughout Asia from Austronesia as far as Mesopotamia and Hindustan. In the culture of the Austronesian Batak, images of the Singa are often carved into jewellery, amulets, stone or wooden chests, and traditional Batak houses.
Our two rings differ slightly between each other, the first five pictures below correspond to ring size 14. If looked at closely, you can see that this Singa has its mouth closed, as if she were smiling. The other photos belong to ring size 22. Here, it seems as if the creature was actually showing her teeth, threatening any evil who comes across.
